Rosenbauer Sustainability Report 2020
Rosenbauer has concluded a framework contract to supply hydraulic platforms with the Romanian civil protection organization IGSU (Inspectoratul General pentru Situaţii de Urgenţă). The contract has a term of four years, covers up to 100 vehicles and envisages the delivery of 18 units this year. The IGSU will then distribute the hydraulic appliances to professional fire services throughout the country. “We are delighted to equip the Romanian fire services with state-of-the-art technology and see this as an endorsement of our increased engagement in Eastern European countries,” said Kurt Wandaller, Area Manager CEEU at Rosenbauer. “With the B45, the firefighters are being provided with a work tool that will massively increase their capability.”
Large radius of action
The B45 hydraulic platform enables personnel to reach a working height of 45 m, so at least the 15th floor of a high-rise building. Hydraulic horizontal and vertical jacking ensures a firm foundation in any operational situation, and the jacks can be moved to any position within the jacking width of 6.3 m. The aerial rescue kit consists of a newly developed, performance-optimized telescope with a four-part main boom and two-part cage boom. This combination ensures maximum freedom of movement and offers a degree flexibility that has been further increased thanks to the second cage boom. This means that even normally hard-to-access areas can now be reached. High-strength steels provide the telescope with the necessary strength and robustness. For enhanced safety, two righting cylinders are installed as with all Rosenbauer hydraulic firefighting and rescue platforms, even if this is not stipulated in the requirements of the design standard EN1777.
Continuous water piping
The B45 is equipped with a 500 kg working/rescue cage with water piping integrated in the cage structure, a permanently attached water turret and a camera on the cage railings. With a water feed at the rear, a special rotary feed-through via the turntable and the Telescopic Waterway System that pumps water upward along the telescope, it can be instantly deployed for firefighting once connected to a tank fire truck or a hydrant. The cage and operational area are illuminated with LED lamps and spotlights, while the camera is used both for reconnaissance and to visualize the progress of extinguishing efforts. Accessories for the rescue cage with space for 5 personnel include a stretcher mount for rescuing people (300 kg) and a diving ladder that can be inserted in the mount on the multi-functional column. In addition, the cage can swivel 60° to the left and right, enabling high-precision positioning in relation to the object.
The HLM podium, which is also installed in Rosenbauer turntable ladders, ensures a a high degree of safety on the appliance with indirect illumination of the entry/exit points and the top surface and strong illumination of the surrounding area with LED technology. The equipment compartments are also illuminated by LEDs and are located behind the cab (1) and underneath the podium (4) between the axles. The vehicles are built on Volvo FMX 6x2 with 500 hp (368 kW) Euro 6 engines.
Rosenbauer is supporting the Romanian civil protection organization IGSU together with its partner Deltalift, which will organize the handover of the vehicles to the local fire services and train the emergency personnel to use the new appliances. A total of around 32,900 professional firefighters and another around 137,000 volunteer firefighters are active in Romania1). The civil protection organization IGSU coordinates all the organizations that work to protect against threats and manage emergencies and runs 42 operational centers throughout the country for this purpose. Last year, it recorded a total of 525,916 deployments, of which the professional fire service attended the most by far (520,866). At around 80%, the majority of the deployments was accounted for by rescue and ambulance services, while deployments for firefighting operations and the provision of technical assistance (from dealing with flooding to rescuing people stranded in lifts) accounted for just over 6%2). The new hydraulic firefighting and rescue appliances will be used in a variety of ways: rescuing people, firefighting and technical operations.
